What is Color Light Therapy?

Alternative medicine teaches that our bodies have energy centers, or chakras. These energy centers are linked to specific glands and organs of the body. Each of these energy centers vibrates at a certain frequency. Everything vibrates, from planets circling the sun to electrons circulating around an atom. Similarly, our body's energy centers, or chakras, vibrate at specific frequencies.

When one or more energy center is out of balance, disease or emotional stress can occur. It is easy for imbalance to happen. The normal stresses of the day (noise, job pressures, stress, family pressures, relationships, environmental toxins, foreign substances in the non-organic food we eat, etc.) can all put us out of balance. In order to be healthy, it is important to get full spectrum light from the sun. Sunlight contains all colors. But if you are already out of balance in some area(s), full spectrum light will not help bring back balance.

If our body receives color energy of a frequency which corresponds to an energy center which is out of balance, that energy center may be brought back into balance when it begins to vibrate at the same frequency as the color. This happens by the process of entrainment.

Entrainment

Entrainment is when one object reacts to the vibration of another and begins to then vibrate at the same frequency. This process can be observed when two grandfather clocks with the same pendulum length are placed next to each other. After a while, both pendulums will be swinging, or vibrating, together.

Color Light Therapy

Color light therapy takes advantage of color vibrations to bring the energy centers back into balance. Color is energy. Each color vibrates at a specific frequency. Here is a chart of the energy centers with their corresponding colors.

CHAKRA COLOR
Crown VIOLET
Brow (Third Eye) INDIGO
Throat BLUE

The equipment for color light therapy can be rather pricey. But there is an affordable and easy to use alternative. Wearing color therapy glasses allows you to directly receive the benefits of color from the light entering through your eyes. The light will be converted to the color's frequency allowing your body to receive any possible benefits quickly and easily. There is no need to sit in front of a lamp. No need for electricity. Just put on the glasses in the color of your choice and you have instant color light therapy.

How does this work?

The pineal gland is a pea sized organ in the center of your brain. It is stimulated by signals which are sent to it through your eyes as generated by the light that enters them. This may be where the term "Third Eye" (sixth chakra) comes from. The pineal gland is one of the body's master glands, a regulator of regulators. It affects our moods, body temperature, growth, motor activity, blood pressure, sexual desire and reproduction, tumor growth, immune system and motor activity.

The colors our eyes perceive are interpreted by the pineal gland as frequencies of light and can have a profound effect on our mood and body.

Color is Used Even in Western Medicine

There are many ways in which conventional Western medical practice uses color for healing. Here are a few examples.

Jaundice

Phototherapy is used to treat jaundice in new born babies. Hyperbilirubinemia is a condition where there are higher than normal levels of bilirubin in the blood of a infant. Blue light can be simply projected onto the baby. This blue light converts the bilirubin into a water soluble form which can then be excreted in the urine or bile.

MRSA Blue Light Therapy

Research conducted at the New York Institute of Technology in Westbury, New York, have shown that MRSA, the extremely difficult to kill and sometimes deadly staph infection Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, can be successfully treated by applying blue light at the specific frequency of 470 nanometers. They have found that it can reduce the infection by 90%.

SAD

Full spectrum light is used to treat SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Bone Marrow Transplant

Studies with promising results are being conducted on the use of red light to ease the pain and promote healing of bone marrow transplant patients.

Cancer

An FDA approved light therapy is used to destroy small cancer tumors in the lungs, esophagus and some small body cavities. A photosensitizer, a substance which sensitizes the cancer cells to light, is first injected into the body. After about 24 hours, this substance is gone from normal cells, but remains in cancerous cells, making them more sensitive to the light. The tumor is then exposed to a specific color wave length. The photosensitizer then produces a form of oxygen which kills the cancer cells.

Dyslexia

Children with dyslexia are often able to read if they wear colored glasses or place a colored plastic sheet over the words. Different colors work for different children. Blue and yellow are the most popular colors for this treatment.

Color Therapy Glasses

It is also interesting to note that color therapy glasses are being used by neurologists, chiropractors and naturopathic doctors to treat the symptoms of migraine headaches, tremors and other problems.
